Automating Our Control System

Pilot Program Manager John Reardan operating the VECTORR with the new console.
We are continuing with the updating and automation of our control system. As a part of this program we have added a control console to our observation platform. A substantial two-way throttle and sophisticated touch screen interfaces with our electronic controller and existing radio transmitter to allow semi-automated operation of the VECTORR. Maintenance programs that are accessible via the touch screen allow testing of all guideway valves and switches. Also added to the display is a sensitive electronic manometer which gives us a readout at the platform of pressure or vacuum in the power tube. With the ability to hold constant power settings with the hand throttle and a sensitive pressure readout, we can check for leaks in the system just by watching pressure changes as the train moves through a particular section of the guideway. We have also fitted a wi-fi camera to the thrust carriage to allow real-time "tuboscopy" of the power tube.
